I managed not to splash any oil, or drop the drain plug. I felt a little out of practice but somehow I didn’t commit my usual blunders.
2008 Pontiac Vibe, 1ZZ-FE, auto, 117, 543 miles:
- oil: totally full , happy I got one of these later 1ZZ’s that don’t burn oil.
- power steering fluid: acceptable
- AT fluid: full
- brake fluid: acceptable
- coolant: topped off. Never had any heating issues with this car, but I always have to top it off twice a year
Still pretty happy with this car overall . Owned it for 3 years, already added on 50k miles. I’ve replaced some bulbs, radiator fan ($120, gasp), and earlier this year the battery... the ORIGINAL battery.
Fleet for your time.

I always end up spraying hot, used oil all over myself... Very impressive battery life.

An American* car that doesn’t burn any oil, as I am a notorious jingoist.
*assembled in California with a Japanese powertrain
, good enough.

Pretty sure my E90 is on the original battery. 8 years and going strong.

Nice! I have a 2006 1ZZ-FE that was burning oil when I got it but stopped after the second change where I put in high-mileage synthetic.

Interesting, I’m still running conventional every 3,500 miles. I’m kind of in “if it ain’t broke...” mode on the car. I’m leery of going to synthetic but ponder if I should at some point

But half the fun of an oil change is having burning hot oil run down your arm!

I waited 30 minutes after we got home. It was merely "very very warm."

It’s my favorite part of every oil change! The newer models are too easy!

I do the synthetic every 5k or 6 months, been on that for a bit over 15k miles and a few months short of 2 years.

Also the burnage was only half a quart every 5k.

I usually make a coffee in a french press and drink a cup. I find the amount of time it takes to do that will let the oil cool just enough.
